2018 Audi A5 Sportback Specs Review and Images – New, fresh, but expected enough for the 2018 Audi A5 Sportback. Although, the A5 is a sleek and sleek stroke we expected it to be a little more different than the outgoing model. The same goes with its sedan version – the A5 Sportback. It is a nice looking car, well proportioned and fairly easy to look at, however, it lacks the innovation that we tend to expect from manufacturers like Audi.
Despite this, we love the car. Its front end is no longer rakishly angry as before. Yet the Audi hexagonal grill and the front of the front bumper perfectly sculpted with the sharp chrome line give it a more refined appearance. Yes, it’s the same as the 2018 Audi A5 Coupe giving the impression that the Audi designers were a little lazy. The truth is that the first gen of the A5 Sportback had the same mimicking problem if we can call it that.

The sides are executed intelligently. The roof is longer but it starts to sink to the ground just above the pillar B. And this is where the A5 Sportback differs from the A5 Coupe. It has rear doors and a massive triangular window after them. With a strongly accentuated line above the door handles and slim thin hips with a muscular appearance, the A5 Sportback elegantly carries the sporty character of the small coupe. The rear end is, probably an identical piece of design as on the coupe.
The expected growth in length occurred. More importantly than that, the 2015 A5 Sportback gained even more room inside. Increasing the inside length by 0.7 inches meant that the passengers have more room for the knees. Audi has further improved the shoulder room – by 0.4 inches. Not a massive improvement, but some will feel it.

As for the interior layout, it is clear that the Audi did not experiment. Everything we’ve seen in the A4 sedan and the A5 coupe is here. It works, for sure. Large 8.3-inch MMI screen dominates the central stack. With this feature, the entire central rod has lost a number of physical buttons compared to the outgoing model. Even more important for this case is the huge 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit behind the wheel. This is a state-of-the-art display that provides exceptionally clear data. Definitely better than just an analog tachy. Audi even tablet prepared as gadgets for rear seat entertainment. Nobody is left out.
2018 Audi A5 Enigne
Taking everything from the A5 Coupe meant that the Audi A5 Sportback will continue with three gasoline and three diesel engines ranging in power from 167hp to 348hp. The Germans did not reveal the American offer, however. Yet we can expect a two-liter TFSI with 252hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, as well as a S5 Sportback. Yes, it is unveiled with others and it comes with a three-liter V6 turbocharged.
354hp and 369 lb-ft of torque is on tap for the Sportback S5 and the most important fact about this is the acceleration figure. It reaches 62 mph in 4.7 seconds – the same as the S5 coupe. As expected, depending on the engine and transmission configuration (AWD or FWD), the A5 Sportback is available with a six-speed manual, seven-speed S-Tronic and the best eight-speed automatic.
All that said, it seems that the newest 2018 Audi A5 carries all the features of the previous and builds on it. It is bigger, faster, more economical and more enjoyable. Yet it is lighter. And by many. Official estimates are that the A5 Sportback misses massive 187.4 pounds compared to the previous version. Now it tilts the scales to 3,280 lbs. A lot of re-engineering has come into it to achieve these results.
First, the new modular platform underpins the car. The transition to the longitudinal engines required Audi to redesign the platform. This allowed the designers to incorporate the rear link suspension instead of a trapezoidal tie as in the front car. We did not drive it, however, we are sure that the A5 Sportback is faster, harder and harder. That’s all we need. In addition, it has received a special AWD that can disconnect the rear wheels to save fuel on the highway, 2018 Audi A5.
