The all-new 2018 Volvo XC60 is not a reduced XC90. “We were sure that we wanted a different look and not babushka design,” Thomas Ingenlath, vice president Volvo design, said, referring to Russian matryoshka nesting dolls of decreasing size. An internal design contest counted eight models that led to the model unveiled today. Ingenlath says this is the most fluid design process of his career, even with the pressure of replacing Volvo’s volume of the vehicle. “A sweet childhood, good parents,” he said with a smile describing the last iteration of SPA.
2018 Volvo XC60 Interior and Exterior
Compared to the outgoing XC60, the new model features a more vertical front with a prominent grid flanked by LED thor hammer headlights. The look is similar to other recent Volvo models, but on the XC60 the headlights connect to the grid. The new model features three bold lower air intakes (instead of the previous single aperture) with shiny metal trim under the central air intake and LED fog lights below the exterior air intakes . The 2018 Volvo XC60 is longer, lower and wider. The wheelbase grows from 3.6 inches to 112.8 inches, and the overall length is only 2.4 inches longer at 184.6 inches. Width increases less than 0.5 inches to 74.9 inches, and the vehicle is also 0.5 inches lower at a height of 65.3 inches. It is larger, but weighs about the same with greater use of light steel.

The interior is where the new 2018 Volvo XC60 improves considerably on the current vehicle. A new look is introduced in the top finish levels. Natural driftwood offers a slightly faded look, silver gray techno, but retains a strong grain. You can feel the texture of the wood under the light protective coating. It is deliberately used somewhat enough to pay tribute to its Scandinavian roots, but it is not overwhelming and keeps the interior clean and clear. There is a beautiful ribbon of wood through the dashboard, into the door, and onto the center console. You can always order interiors with smoked larch wood if you prefer the brighter look.
Look closely at the passenger side dashboard for the Swedish flag stamped into the aluminum that extends from the driver’s side cockpit edge to the passenger door. This is a smart way to disguise the break in the pad, it was too long to heat in one piece.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 shares the Sensus Connect system and the 9.3-inch touch screen with the 90 series, but it has been updated with larger fonts and a clearer path for some of the functions after Volvo received comments that The system can be difficult to navigate.
Safety is where Volvo has made its name, and 2018 Volvo XC60 bags a few key security systems. It now has steering assistance, which can move the vehicle out of danger, whether it’s changing lanes or drifting towards the future traffic. It is also equipped with the option Pilot Assist, a suite of semi-autonomous driving systems that can control steering, gas and brakes (on well-marked roads, be careful) up to 81 miles per hour.
2018 Volvo XC60 Engine
After committing to selling three- or four-cylinder cars exclusively, Volvo took much of the guesswork out to determine the secrets of its future powertrain models. The XC60 will therefore use the same four-cylinder Drive-E engine found in almost every other Volvo on sale today. In fact, we would not be shocked if the new 2018 Volvo XC60 starts with the same engines as its predecessor, which comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (T5 version) and a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine T6). A turbocharged inline-five is also part of the engine coming out of the XC60 engine, but it will not continue. Final outputs are up in the air, but expect at least 240 horsepower for the T5 and over 300 hp for the T6. An automatic transmission
